[RC] Big Horn Saddles - Tx Trigger

I've been using a Bighorn for a few years now. For one of the less expensive
saddles, they can work fairly well if you get that "right" fit. I have been
lucky to have that fit. I have a horse that takes a wider tree, and the Semi
QH tree fits him. BUT, this is important, not every Bighorn will fit the
same, even if they have the same model number on them. Depending on how old
they are, I think where they have gotten their trees from, depends on the
tree width. I've had two that were both Semi QH trees, and one was much
wider than the other. In general, they slip forward on most of the horses
I've used them on, so I always use a crupper. They give riders a leg
position with their legs more in front of them, than under them due to
stirrup placement / angle. (some call it a chair seat) Some people that
works well, others it tips them back and rotates them on to their tail bone
too much. They are a wider seat, or twist, and often they seat is very hard,
and I use a tush cush and sheepskin on mine. I like the ability to 3 point
rig it, so I can get girth back a tad out of the horses elbow / "arm pit"
area. You can tie stuff on really easy. They are inexpensive, and hold up
pretty well. I think in general, they have a better chance of fitting and
working well than the other inexpensive saddles in the same type, like the
Abbettas.

I use a Supracor endurance pad with mine. The pad comes down under the girth
rings and helps protect the horse from rubs. This combo worked great for my
horse on Tevis in 2005, without any soreness in the back. I'm a HWT rider,
and the Bighorn displaces the weight well for us. Checked fit with an
Impression Pad, and it's a good fit. You can find them on eBay.
