Re: [RC] question on electric portable corrals and blanketed horses? - steelsidedown
I had the 12's -- too heavy for me at 80lbs
each -- I found 6's from a local supplier (Southern States) -- 30lbs each
$60 -- and they fit into a "stall" in the trailer -- downside I have to carry 8
instead of 4.

Boy, do we agree with this! We also have 12'
livestock panels, originally painted steel, but we had them galvanized.
Heavy rascals...takes two of us to take them down, and put them back again,
but using the side of our 20' gooseneck trailer, four panels make a 12 X 24
foot corral, fit for two horses. One experience was enough to make us
believers; that was the time we were camped in Panamint Springs, all other
folks had left, and we settled in to stay the night. Wild burros came up
off the desert to clean up the remaining hay. We had our horses
literally bouncing off the wall of our trailer in fear. We finally had
to pack up and drive 50 miles away where we spent the rest of the night...what
there was of it.

FWIW, some of these new panel systems are so flimsy that one is
beginning to see the same problems. We actually use 12' livestock
panels--they are heavy and a bugger to put up and take down, but they are
worth every ounce of the effort for the safety of my horses (not only from
getting out but from having other horses get in) and for my peace of
mind. I've only seen a few brands of panels on the market that come
close.
