Re: [RC] barefoot rears: not "heavy forehand" - Diane TrefethenWhy expect barefoot rears with boots or shoes front to put your horse onto his forehand? Because unlike the weights in the TWH world, our boots/shoes provide substantial relief from the discomforts of an uneven trail. Thus with protection in front and none in back, especially on rough trail, I would expect horses to try to get off their hind feet faster than their front ones, much like they often wander back and forth on a trail to seek out the softest footing. Your point about breakover is valid too, but I think both factors contribute to how a horse travels. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
