A trick I use when cleaning the inserts is to set them on an
oven rack in the tub. The inserts when wet need to be handled with care.
Setting them on an oven rack allows the air to circulate (they dry quicker) and
also makes it easy for me to get them out of the bath tub.
For washing the pad/cover, I use Leather
Therapy Laundry Solution. I leave my pad out to air dry (draping
it over a railing). It doesn’t take too long to dry and it sure looks
like new when I’m done. The washing gets out that glaze that develops on
the wool from the sweat, dirt, grime, etc.
In between washings I use a curry comb to lightly abrade the
wool surface before and after a ride. The pad should always be stored with the
wool side facing up so it can thoroughly dry between rides.
