I posted to Beth privately, but I'll post briefly here, too.
 
What too often is CALLED a "club foot" is really high-low syndrome, and Roxanne's horse sounds like a good example.
 
True club feet have radiographic changes in the coffin bone and do not respond to corrective shoeing.  High-low sundrome can eventually lead to a club foot if not addressed, but given a good farrier that understands the condition, these horses often can (and do) compete just fine.  And most, over time, will also change toward a more normal growth pattern of the feet if they are kept after.

     I have an endurance horse with mild club foot. When we first started competing he was age 6 and we had off and on lameness. I finally found that a good ferrier was the answer. Someone who understands the condition and does not try to make both feet the same. Also more frequent trims to keep the foot balanced. I am happy to say my horse Mattison(Ahminn) is 21 with over 1500 endurance miles and still doing an occasional 50.
