*I did quite a bit of research this last spring also trying to find out the NSC (Non-structural carbs) are in various feeds....oddly enough, Nutrena Safe Choice was right up there in similiar levels as Purina Strategy and Purina Adult....so really, sugar levels were NOT significantly lower....only
so called low-carb feed that had significantly lower NSC levels (in 8% range) was the low-carb LMF feed. Another interesting point about SAfe Choice, is that in all the information on the back of the bag....nothing regarding NSC levels!
*This may not be as much an issue for endurance horses as it is for insulin-resistant or cushings horses, but it's still worth knowing!
use a > complete feed that Manna Pro makes that is only 1 to 2% > molasses.
Karen, is this Complete Horse 10?
During a ride I'll let them eat things like Omolene that > has 10% molasses. I've had friends who thought they had overly > difficult to control or hot-wired horses when all it was is they were > feeding something pre-ride like Complete Advantage that has 20% > molasses.
I also talked to the Purina reps about this; they claim their molasses is a "freeze dried" molasses with most of the sugar
removed..... Karen
