I personally think natural horsemanship includes anything that works 'with' the horse as opposed to 'making' the horse do things. To me that includes dressage. Marirose I guess I would start with teaching the horse to move away from pressure rather that into or against it from the ground first .... and then use leg pressure to get the horse to move away from the rail. A lot of horses are insecure and will hug the rail for that reason. I have walked my horse with me on the ground through various things before attempting them in the saddle. Some horses resist out of fear and anxiety and it is just repetition until they are comfortable and understand what you are asking as most horses want to please (if not worked too long at a time). I wouldn't try to teach a green horse more than one thing a day and keep it under 15 minutes. And days off in between to just be a horse. I really like Clinton Anderson and Frank Bell training tapes. But that is just my two cents. -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
