Re: [RC] my mare will only urinate in her pen at rides...Help. kinda long - Don HustonHello Jen,I had a mare and now my current gelding that did that and 4 other geldings that didn't. I just ignore the pee issue on rides because of all the excitement but I also have done some pee training at home. I almost always have to pee after the first hour so when I stop I have always tried to find a grassy or weedy spot. If the horse relaxes enough to start eating and I have a drink and wait a couple minutes they almost always will pee too. I do pee training on training rides by working the horse hard non-stop for the first hour then stop in a weedy area to check recovery time (60bpm within 10min). Eventually, two out of three times they will pee. Good luck, Don Huston At 10:25 AM 9/14/2006 Thursday, you wrote: Hello, I have just started my 12 year old mare in endurance. She has done 60miles LD and just finished her second 50. My trouble is she will not urinate anywhere other than her electric pen. This means on ride day to get her to go I have to put her in the pen at vet checks so she can go and she does with or without tack on. One occasion this affected her CRI. We went into the vet check with a full bladder had a 12/14 CRI (everything else A) was told to come back after the hold to recheck if she was ok I could get my vet card back and continue the ride. I took all her tack off then put her in the pen. She immediately urinated then after the hold went back to the Vet CRI was 12/12 finished the ride fine. So after that I just made sure every check I put her in the pen. This last 50 had no checks in Camp... I thought she would have to go so bad she would give in. Nope she held it the entire ride until the second she was back in her pen. (she had all A's on vet card all day) I can tell when she really needs to go but she just will not. I get off... find places other horse have gone... etc. No luck. I want to sign us up for another 50 with no in camp checks but I don't want her to be so uncomfortable. any Ideas? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
