Yesterday I picked up my recently weaned Polish Arab filly
and she is a little beauty. Very well behaved. Got into and out of
the trailer with next to no problem (her first time in a trailer!). Using a
“rump rope” she quietly let me lead her to her new digs even though
she had never before been led. She has been well handled and allows me to
touch her everywhere, feet, ears, belly, etc. She began eating right off
and showed a very healthy interest in her new home and her two neighbors, my
mustang geldings. She has a very grown-up whinny which she employed quite
frequently last night in search of her mom (who is back in Santa Rosa.) I have nothing but praise
for Sydni Davenport who helped orchestrate the rescue of 40 plus Arab racing
horses from northern NapaCounty. She did a
great job with “Minuet”—the name we’ve given to little
“Spring.” Meanwhile, she informs me she still has two young
studs (a year and two years of age) available in Petaluma. These horses have great blood
lines but likely don’t have pedigrees since the once renown breeder
allowed her herd to go semi-feral with the three stallions in the group banding
up the mares on their own so there probably is no record of who sired
who. These two youngsters are NOT halter broken but judging from young
Minuet are probably very easily trained. To find out more about them,
call Sydni at (707) 546-6520 (home) or (707) 396-3861. Donations for
their upkeep are running out and Sydni is footing the bill on her own dime and
is looking for a good home to take one or both. According to one
Ridecamper who was good enough to do a little research for me, the breeding
stock has great bloodlines out of Poland. Among the horses that
figure in their bloodline are: Bask, Comet, Ariston, Wiraz. Count Dorsaz.
Bay-Abi, Indraff, Flis, Eter, Kontiki, Wielki Szlem, Witraz, Witez II, Tripolis
and Priboj (whose name figured in the background of several of the recent top 10
at the Aachen WEG. I think that anyone interested in developing a
potential endurance horse could do worse than contacting Sydni. I don’t
know whether she’ll ask for some remuneration for one of these
youngsters, but if she does, it would likely be minimal.
