It seems the stroke volume is genetically programmed and fixed in horses. The slowest horse I competed had the lowest Resting Heart Rate. He would vet in at 28. Kaboot was good for me, not the *best* at recoveries but pretty respectable. He vetted in at 44. Merlyn & Ben were the best at recoveries. Their RHR was 32 to 36.
