Subject: Re: [RC] Old Mac versus EasyBoots - Dream WeaverHi Charlene -- it sounds as if you may need a different size boot for your horses hind hooves. The biggest problem people have with boots if getting them sized and fitted. The gaiters are designed to rip so that the boot will separate. If you just purchased the boots then they are covered under warranty. Please contact Chris at EasyCare on Monday (800-447-8836 ext. 225) to get replacements. You can print out this template (good for Easyboots, Epics and Bares) and then trace your horses hooves and hold up to see if the size you are using is correct.I live at over 5500' elevation and have to deal with wet winters (mud, snow, etc.). That's why I have always cut the heelstraps down in my regular Easyboots, and with the boots that come with gaiters I cut the heelstrap out or order the boots with tapers. Some horses need the strap depending upon the shape of their foot to keep a good fit. At Bryce on the first day I used vetwrap on Zenos. Then I didn't bother after that and each of my horses did two more days after that first day and I didn't have any rubbing on either of them. The new gaiters are better now, softer and more durable -- yet like I said they are designed to come apart for safety reasons. There are other modifications that I make that allow me to get a really good fit with the boots. (see my blog if you are interested in learning more http://easycareinc.typepad.com/karen/ ) Riders have completed rides of all distances using the boots, over barefoot horses including 5 day multiday rides and the Tevis. It takes more effort to begin with to learn and get the experience needed to do it without having any problems on actual endurance rides. If you need more help let me know. Karen
