There is a wide variation in the rules. For
example UMECRA CTR* rules state:
".....If boots, bandages, or wraps
are used, the horse shall be penalized two points per leg per
day. ..."
The rule does not
differentiate between various types of boots. (Yes, this probably implies
an endorsement of traditional steel horseshoes. If you don't like it,
don't enter a UMECRA CTR)
In evaluating this rule,
remember that the UMECRA score system starts with 400 points. Also
remember that a pulse of 40 = 3 lost points, 44 = 6 lost points. UMECRA
rules are tough. And if a horse interferes a small scab will curely
cost the rider at least 2 points.
Please remember that CTR
is just a different game. I am not defending or condeming the rules, just
showing what they are.
