[RC] CTR Endurance Differences - Lauren Horn

Lysane,

The way I understand it...and I may be wrong...but the CTR folks wanted a venue to showcase good trail horses that could also be used for breeding. Meaning...if I have a horse that constantly bangs himself when he flings his feet around why would I want to breed that horse to pass on the trait. CTR rewards horses with proper conformation, good feet, willing easy temperament, good minds and athletic ability. Traits that you would want to pass on to the next generation to make good trail horses. A good trail horse and an endurance horse can be the same thing or a different thing. To me, I would rather have a good CTR horse that can do endurance then a good endurance horse that fails in CTR. In my opinion, I think AERC should partner with NATRC and encourage novice endurance riders to do NATRC first. There are many thing to learn from the sport that makes you a better endurance rider and can help bring along young horses so that their minds are in the right place. They both are fun sports and I do both.

Bringing along my homebred 5 year old in NATRC first.
