[RC] ARABIAN HALTER HORSE ABUSE - rides2farIt appears that many endurance people on this list tend to see in black and white-- they are the "good guys" and show people are the "bad guys". Rather humorous when I hear about all the IV's needed after a run. Betty, that doesn't sound like you. "All the IV's needed after a run" is a pretty rough statement. It's usually the people who have never been to a ride who assume it's the front runners who end up being treated on IV's. As often as not it's a very concientious middle of the packer whose horse happened for some reason not to stay hydrated that day. Encouraging the stigma on what is a very expensive treatment that the owner pays for to make sure their horse is OK is just rubbing salt in their wounds. If I were searching for an "abuse" case I wouldn't be looking at the treatment line so much as among the ignorant who don't know their saddle hurts the horse, the shoes hurt the horse, the bit cuts the horse, etc. There are far fewer of those at endurance rides than anywhere else I"ve been. I've never had a horse on IV's, but I know riders who are better than me, and more conservative than me, and darn near as poor as me, who have. It was rough on them.
