[RC] [RC] easyboot alternative - 2 answers - Dream Weaver

This is particularly for Karen C but anyone who uses boots I'd like to hear from. I have to use old style Easyboots for CTR and the last ride the heel strap cut into my horses heel bulb. He has a bruise which doesn't seem to bother him much but I have another CTR in 4 weeks and I'm looking for ideas. I love the Bares and prefer them but the CTR rules are very limiting.

Laney's advice is good -- trim the heelstrap down.  My shod horses never had enough heel on them to warrant a heelstrap as wide as they come, and the barefoot ones are really not any different.  I've always trimmed mine down to half the width and that seems to work.  Also, if your horse will keep the boots on this way, it works great -- cut the heelstrap off and foam the boots on.  I did the whole 2001 XP that way and it worked really well.

Here is the original Easyboot 101 article which has photos showing how to trim down the back of the boot and the heelstraps.

Has anyone used or tried the Boa Boat?  Also, what about the Poly shoes from Germany?

I know a couple of people who use and like Boa boots.  One of them in Clinton Anderson.  Click on the video only if you want to hear him talk nonstop for over 7 minutes about how wonderful the boots are <vbg>.  The others that use them and like them are Barney and Linda Fleming and they are using them on their draft horses Luke and Duke.

btw, as a side note the link just posted to the packs has a photo of Weaver on the side -- with me riding him with--- Boa's.  ;)  They are great for riding on pavement, or for short rides.  I wouldn't recommend them for endurance though.   Stick with Epics or Bares or regular Easyboots, or nail on shoes or whatever works for your horse for longer distances.   ;-)
