[RC] Endurance lines and breeding endurance horses - k s swigartKim Fuess said: I think it is important to look at lines and individuals which have produced successful endurance horses. For example let's just look at what Rushcreek Leeann has produced and contributed to endurance. This mare produced 6 foals and was bred to well known the well known endurance stallions Cougar Rock and Sierra Fadwa. Out of the six foals she produced four that by any standards are superior endurance horses. Rushcreek Leeann is a perfect example of what I meant that you needn't restrict yourself to looking at horses that have succeeded in endurance. Rushcreek Leeann doesn't appear in the AERC's database as ever having entered a single ride, yet she still seems to have the ability to produce quality endurance foals. Becaue her name is Rushcreek anything, this suggests that she comes from the Rushcreek breeding program, and because she came from the Rushcreek breeding program and was born in 1977, there is a good chance that she would produce quality endurance horses despite never having been proven at rides. I am not saying that you shouldn't choose horses that have recent ancestors that have proven themselves in endurance (this is, in fact, one of your best chances; although you haave a better chance of choosing ones that have recent ancestors that have proven themselves as producers of endurance horses, whether they ever competed themselves or not, like Leeann); however, I wouldn't limit myself to those, because people not competing their bloodstock in endurance are also capable of producing quality horses that can succeed in endurance. kat Orange County, Calif. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
