Re: [RC] Endurance Ride stories & juniors - rides2farSomeone with severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the hip which required> walking with a cane 24/7 & did not have surgery Look up the record of Dinah Rojek. She had a bad riding accident, I believe when she was 27 and had to have her first hip replacement. She wore that one out and had another. She gets around camp on a Segway, walks with a cane, and until last year competed in many 100 milers...very successfully. She was chosen for the 4 person squad on the USA-East gold medal team in 2001 (though she didn't finish that year) Hip replacements are the worst for wearing out. That's why doctors put off having the first one as long as possible, so being well into her 2nd one I would think would put Dinah well into your "courageous" catagory. I remember reading that a doctor told Becky Hart her back was too bad to do endurance....BEFORE she did her 10,000+ miles, 3 World Championships, etc. Merryben...do I have that right? I'm hesitant to encourage people with bad damage though. "Being Tough" is great, but you don't want to ruin yourself.
