Re: [RC] Arabs and water - Sisu West RanchOne of the biggest myths about Arabian horses. We have 5 pure Arabian horses, and two half Arabian horses. We also have owned many horses of other breeds, including Quarter horses. Without exception all riding horses must be taught to cross water properly. Arabian horses are no harder to teach than other horses. We cross still, rushing, and other water everytime we ride with no problems. The reason is that we have trained our horses to cross water. One of the biggest rodeos I have ever seen was about 30 years ago in WI at the trade river. A rather macho trainer was teaching a Quarter horse to cross the Trade river. The whole saddle club sat on the banks and watched the horse fight and splash for at least an hour. Not the way to train a horse, but it did work.
