[RC] 100 's discussion - Karen CoombesAll of you that are SOOOOO worried about the lack of 100?s ? I have a fantastic idea. Why don?t YOU put on a 100 mile ride? Those I hear doing the most griping about it have been around, by their own admissions, a long time (I believe dinosaur is the term used) and should have the ride experience to do it. Then, maybe, you might begin to understand the problem. A place to ride first of all ? that?s a huge hurdle. Then the volunteers to gather. Could any of you get enough volunteers to man a 100 mile ride? And vets? And all the paperwork ? sanctioning, insurance, marketing, registrations, collecting money, getting awards for the riders, feeding the riders and vets, etc, etc, etc - do YOU have time to tend to all these details? Do you even volunteer at rides ? when was the last time? It takes untold hours ? with NO pay ? to manage a ride. My hat is off to EVERYONE who has ever attempted such a feat. My heart is filled with gratitude for you, for without you there would be no 100 mile rides, or 50 mile rides, or 25 mile rides. Thre would be no AERC. Thank a volunteer - and become one. Give back!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
