FW: [RC] broke horse just started bucking - Elizabeth LacyWe had a similar issue with a long-broke mountain horse. He was sweet on the ground, but bucked when anyone but me got on him. He didn't want to hurt me, but he was in pain. Turned out it was a bad saddle fit, and the supposed trainer swore the saddle fit fine. Part of the problem was saddle placement, as it was placed too high on the withers by the "trainer", and he needed a lot of room over the withers to move out with his front shoulders. Took a good vet to come out and figure this out, as it was not obvious pain until the weight of somebody came onto his back. Took him 3 weeks of pain-killers to recover, and he still remembers if the saddle isn't right or rider too heavy for his comfort. Also, we had an Arabian gelding for sale that started getting buckey whenever he stumbled forward. That turned out to be a lameness in the coffin bone joint, which caused him pain on front hoof impact with rider weight forward. Again, needed to see a vet and have an Xray to figure it out. With treatment, he was fine, and became a wonderful children's therapy horse. In sum, see a vet, and consider things outside the box too.
