Re: [RC] broke horse just started bucking - Diane TrefethenYou didn't mention whether the bucking was serious, ie, either hard or unstoppable, or whether your gelding was just throwing in a buck here and there when cantering. If the bucking is "serious", you should definitely check your saddle fit for problems. If the bucks are easy to sit, not at all threatening, playful even, the "problem" may be that because your horse is coming into better shape, he FEELS good and bucking is a not uncommon way for horses to express that. I had a 5-yr old who after about 6 mos of steady conditioning would occasionally, when cantering, lower his head a bit and shake it from side to side. He was asking if it was okay to buck!! If you did nothing, he would start doing a rocking chair sort of buck. I didn't want him to buck under saddle so I would use the reins to just barely suggest a half halt and that would be enough for him not to buck at all. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
