[RC] Followup on unspoonsored Juniors - Michael MaulHere's some additional info on JuniorsIf an under 16 on Dec 1 rider has an unsponsored letter on file with AERC and a wt division, it doesn't matter whether Tevis or a ride manager requires the rider to have a sponsor at their ride. The RM is doing this in their view as a matter of safety for the rider but it has no effect on the rider's points. Once those results reach the office the points are calculated as if the person was a senior with the specified wt classification. The rider does not lose points even though they are riding with a sponsor. At present if a junior requests an unsponsored letter, they are informed by the office that if they do this mid-year - they will not be allowed to ride as a junior again. It would be unfair to allow a rider to switch back and forth between divisions at will because their competitors need to know who they are competing with in a ride. Most juniors who are worried about placings in their division elect to wait until the season ends to make the change now for this reason. So if you are riding against an unsponsored junior who is riding with a sponsor at the RM request - be aware that your points will be calculated with the rider as a senior - not a junior. This has a plus because in small rides where there are less than 11 entered - this person still counts as a senior even though riding with a sponsor. Juniors don't count in the minimum 11 required for full top ten points.
