Re: [RC] The Physics of Weight Divisions - Sisu West Ranch"....Tevis USED to have this minimum weight requirement (probably because a naive and short-sighted somebody thought "physics says that rider weight ought to have an effect on outcome"...." Last time this came up I did a quick study of the results over the years of a tough ride (Big Horn, lots of up and down, much like Tevis), and the MN Point Chaser (extremely flat and cool temps). At the Big Horn I could not find that the overall place depended on weight, at the Point Chaser I could justify about 3 weight classes. Feather Weight, Lightweight were faster and Heavy Weight were slower. Middleweights in the middle. Please note: to prove anything a better statistician and more rides would be needed. Please don't argue with my tentative conclusions. I am not claiming any validity. I did find it interesting and suggestive. Perhaps weight makes more difference on flat rides than on hilly rides. This jibes with my personal relative placing in flat and hilly rides.
