RE: [RC] The way to train animals - Melissa AlexanderI saw on the today show last week that you can train your husbands using this same philosophy. LOL. The original article was published in the NY Times, and is called "What Shamu taught me about a happy marriage," by Amy Sutherland, a graduate of Moorpark, a college for trainers of exotic animals. She's promoting her new book. I haven't read the book yet, but I'd like to. The use of Behavior Modification techniques on humans is hardly new and different though. Behavior Analysis has two "divisions," one for animals and one for humans, but the theory and techniques used in each are actually the same. In humans, the techniques have been used extensively, for example, in teaching children with autism. Dr. Phil is a textbook behaviorist (so much so that we joke about having a drinking game for his show). The book "Whale Done!" is a popular book by Ken Blanchard that espouses using behavior mod techniques to improve relationships at home and work. My husband is thrilled that I am skilled in behavior mod techniques, and he has learned a ton since we got married. Makes for an extremely happy, stress-free marriage. A great, readable (and usable) intro to the subject is "Don't Shoot the Dog" by Karen Pryor.
