I think it is great that you and Bev have come up with this idea. One question I have is what are the nomination requirements for the "Challenge of Champions". Is it the same as the AERC NC. If so, that means horses entered can be entering the "challenge of champions" as their first 100. One of the most appealing aspects of the ROC in my opinion was that horses actually had to meet real "qualifications" in the 100 mile distance before the were eligible to enter the ROC. Personally, I think it is a joke that the AERC 100 mile champion could actually be crowned "champion" in their first 100 mile ride.
Perhaps, it is too late to have "real" qualifications so that a 100 mile championship ride actually consists of 100 mile horses only. If your idea takes off, I hope that the future "Challenge of Champions" will put qualifications in place that actually require horses to show some type of experience and level of competence in the actual championship distance.
