[RC] jumping/clarifications/different disciplines etc... - Jackie CausgroveOkay, here are a couple of side notes from varying posts. First off, I don't know where Truman was when he stated that there wasn't coverage for the cross country Atlanta games but he is incorrect. I saw coverage of the Atlanta cross country course (it wasn't on local tv stations but cable). And what made it so dangerous wasn't necessarily the course itself (obviously a technical and difficult course, as it was the Olympics!) but also the humidity and heat that both horse and riders were competing in. There are also DVD's of the coverage as well. And why would anyone think that there would not be an investigation when there is a serious injury/death at a horse show? There is a necropsy being performed. Hunt/jump and eventing have governing bodies just like endurance does. . And yes there are horse that jump for
the fun of it. Horse also do high level dressage moves when playing out in the field as well. Horses are capable of enjoying all sorts of activities. I think that so much is written about this particular tragedy is out of a lack of knowledge about a particular discipline. For those who participate in a sport that has it's share of detractors, I find this a bit of a surprise. For those who are uncomfortable with jumping and the disciplines that incorporate jumping, so be it. It's not your thing. Enjoy what you and your horse are involved in. Take care Jackie
