Re: [RC] Truman, BH, colics - Sisu West Ranch".... the horse had a broken neck..."No matter how you slice it or dice it cross country is a dangerous sport. We attended the Event at Rebecca Farm last year. A horse shied at a jump, dumped the rider, she was severely injured, life flighted and (unless my memory is bad) died. Ed Who still doubts the real significance of some "statistically significant " events where only one or two events change the interpretation. When the Power Ball Lottery first started two big wining tickets were sold from the same convenience store in a year or so. It would have been wrong to conclude anything but that it was a coincidence. In the case of horse colics at endurance rides one has a much harder thing to get a handle on than the detection of a subatomic particle. Some horse colics just happen. (Like the ones that happen in a pasture), some are from worm damage, some are from dehydration, some are from overriding etc. When there are only two how does one separate all the causes? In most cases even a necropsy will not allow a decision. Please be assured I do think there should be an investigation. I do want to protect horses. I just don't see getting our colective Knickers in a twist over two unfortunate events at the BH ride.
