Re: [RC] jumping/accidents and horses - indiancp

i also used to event back in the years when folks still thought you could fall off the earth if you went far enough.  used to fox hunt, too.  i've known riders to be seriously hurt at a jump but never a horse.  not saying it doesn't happen..i've just never known of any.
i do have to disagree with those who say you can't make a horse jump if it doesn't want to.  you can.
not the way i'd want to do it but some don't seem to mind.  a horse that you make jump is an unsafe jumper. jumpers should be brought along slowly and the height of a jump never brought up until the horse is confident and eagerly looking for the next jump.  some folks rush that, too, they don't take the time to give the horse confidence, allow the horse to develop mental and physical fitness to handle the job at hand.  some horses will never get there and those horses are best given another job as
the horses will often tend to get in the habit of rushing a jump in an attempt to "get it over with"  not a good thing and not a safe thing.
