One thought that may work is to contact the local Search and Rescue chapter and see if they have mounted teams. They may be willing to volunteer the drag ride position as an exercise? I do know I contacted a new ride manager in the Reno area and volunteered to drag ride a section and was told they didn't use or need drag riders..their perogative. I think teams with radios back to base camp, or the next or last vet check is a nice safety net.
