[RC] Drag Riders..IMHO - Ranelle RubinDear Ridecampers,I for one, appreciate drag riders. I have drag rode several rides, Swanton, Gold Country, and a ride in NV years ago that I can't remember the name of.. I will tell you what happened to us last year while drag riding the Swanton: We came upon a lady in her mid to late 60's who was: -out of water -walking uphill leading her horse who was "just plain tired" -too tired herself to go more than about 20-30ft before resting as it was one of the steepest climbs of the day. Those of you who have done Swanton will know this as they put a vet check at the top of this hill at the airport. I can't right now remember the name of the canyon, Had we not come along to put her on my horse and give her a ride out, she may have been HOURS out there. I made her drink some of my Recharge which has diluted white grape juice/lemon juice as she was pale and clammy. Her horse was fine, just too tired to carry her up the hill..I tailed my boy and led her horse. So, do you NEED drag riders, no. Should you have them? I think so. I prefer not to do a ride without them. I am of the opinion that this is such an easy solution to such a potential disaster, that I am surprised AERC does not make it mandatory.
