Hello Drin,
I don't know anything about calcium carbonate but I have had 2 horses 
(mare & gelding) that gave me some tying up problems and both quit 
doing it when put on bermuda grass, no alfalfa ever, except at rides 
where they ate whatever they wanted. Just my $.02
