[RC] Ride and Tie: Pioneertown - cynthia hamberg

Hello Everybody:
I just have to say what a great crowd the "Ride and Tie" group is.
My son, Kurtis, and I attended the one up in Pioneertown, CA. this
past weekend.  It was Kurtis' first attempt, as well as the first "Ride
and Tie" for his partner, Trish Gibbs.  Carol Ruprecht (also an AERC rider),
helped to join Kurtis and Trish together as a team, and also located
a horse, "Justin," for them to team up with.  Kurtis is a Varsity Cross-
Country runner,  and had been the 4H San Diego County 2004 Champion
with our beloved "Slick-A-Roo."  After losing Slick to cancer last month,
I thought that Kurtis may never want to ride again...But, he threw a
leg up on Justin (Rufus Schneider's horse), and he was literally 'back
in the saddle.'  Kurtis and Trish opted for the 12 mile "Short Course" and
came in 3rd place out of the 8 teams!  Not only do I want to thank you to all
of the people who helped to make this happen...But, I want to say a 
special "thank you" to Evelyn Hartman of Just for Horse'in Round for
encouraging Kurtis to give "Ride and Tie" a try.  It was awesome to 
watch:  The horses AND riders are all in great shape!!!  The 24-milers
all finished in about 3 hours, with a short vet check (criteria of 72), and
several trot-bys.  It was fun and very interesting to watch & crew.
