Re: [RC] Getting the guts to actually do it-100's - Jody Rogers-ButtramDisclaimer to Newbies: Do what others say, not necessarily what I say. :)) They are giving the best advice. You know Truman....I must be an oddball. I have NEVER taken care of myself thru ANY ride. And I have yet to finish on of any distance because I couldn't make it. But, I would try to crawl on if that horse was fit to go and finish....on my death bed. Probably not the smartest thing in the world. And I suppose that Angie will agree that I passed that "suffer, but finish" gene on to Joni. :)) I am not saying that is not a good idea to drink, eat, rest and whatever....but, it AIN'T required. True, if you are tired, weak, your riding form will suffer, therefore making the horse work harder. What I am trying to say is this: I have ALWAYS thought of caring for the horse first and foremost. If I have time to grab something before getting back on, then
fine. If not, I won't die. Even tho I have a crew, (most of the time) I am not the type to come in and sit down while Joel cares for the horses. Nobody could suit me anyway....so I end up doing most of it, and he helps. I must have done pretty well, ( dying on the horse to finish) I figured up my 100 mile ride completion rate...it is 80%. I didn't realize that it was above average until I read what some other people wrote it. Jody Truman Prevatt <tprevatt@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: A crew is always nice, but not necessary.
