[RC] Crew or no crew on 100's - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Naomi Preston mustanglady@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== In my 100 mile experience (24 or so) I've had a crew only for a few major rides -- like Tevis, FEI, and a couple of AERC championship rides. If you've been riding without a crew for your 50's, I don't think it's a big deal to not have a crew on 100's. It's definitely a luxury to have a crew -- but don't be afraid to do a 100 without a crew. Rides with vet checks out of camp will take your crew bag/hay/etc out to the check for you. You just need to be organized and get all of that ready to go. Also, I think its best if the rider really pays attention to their horse at the checks....not just turn them over to the crew. Especially if you're just starting 100's -- you'll want to really make sure your horse is eating/drinking at the checks/holds. And nobody knows your horse better than you! The year I rode solo (no crew) at the 3-day Race of Champions in Montana I really enjoyed the peace and quiet of NOT having a crew. The crewing areas were busy, noisy, lots of activity.......vs. the solo area where people quietly tended to their own horses. Just MHO!
