When I have managed rides, I have given the top ten finishers a certificate 
for a discount on the next higher distance on the next years ride.   The 
theory was that if you can top ten, you are ready to upgrade.  While it 
costs the RM some entry fees the next year, it is not real money in the 
sense that it comes directly out of your pocket.
