Fascinating reading! My kids work with a physical therapist who, in addition to more typical physical therapy, does cranial facial work. She is a student of a doctor whose name I can't remember how to spell: something like John Uplanger(?)
Does this article suggest that this heart rate response is common to all mammals? Does that mean that if I found the appropriate spot to massage on the face of my horse (who is a TWH and pulses down comaparively slowly) that I could help him to pulse down more quickly?
I'm not sure what spot on a horse's face would correspond to the spot this article suggests. I'm not sure he would love an application of ice water, and I can almost guarantee he would resist submerging his face in ice water, but he might buy into a massage.
