Re: [RC] mohair girths cleaning - rdcarrie

What I've been doing with my new one is just hose it off well after each ride.  It's nice and clean/soft when it dries.  I make sure to hang it over the divider in the trailer to dry so that I don't forget it the next time I go ride.  <G>

Subject: [RC] mohair girths cleaning

After years of using neoprene girths on my horse, I bought a mohair girth from Teddy at Hoosier Daddy since I had some girth galls on Sunday for the first time from the neoprene girth.

Did some research in the archives and found out to wash the girth in the washing machine on gentle in a pillow case with gentle detergent. Air dry flat.

That worked well (I used Eqyss Blanket Wash).

My questions. Do you wash the girth in the washing machine every single time you use it? Seems like such a pain after the very low maintenance neoprene. Also, does repeated washing shorten the lifespan? How do you wash the girth at vet checks?

Thanks,
April
