I'm with Truman on this one.  I am looking at my once new Synergist  
in the middle of its third season, scuffs and scratches all over  
it .  It lost its "newness" before the first ride.  With all the rain  
around here, I never thought to worry about the sponge!  After a  
Winter of conditioning rides in a constant drizzle on a saddle that  
was delivered in January, wet sponges were not an issue.
