Re: [RC] Hauling horses cross-country in August? - Jennifer FleetThanks Dyane. In this situation, my two horses will be hauled in a 4-horse slant, in which two dividers will be removed, leaving one stud-wall type divider in the middle, creating two box-stall type compartments. They will be able to move around. They will be always moving during daylight hours, stopping every 3-4 hours long enough to offer water and let them pee (if they won't while the trailer is moving). He has water and a hose on board in case they appear to be sweating too much and need to be hosed off. The hauler has asked me to start e-lyting several days before pickup, and to prepare some feed that they like to mix with e-lytes that he can feed them every day. Trailer floor is double-matted and he uses extra thick layers of shavings for cushion. Hopefully they won't be too uncomfortable and will arrive in FL not too worse for wear. I'm still nervous about it though. Everyone's situation is different, however, two of the factors that I considered when I last had my horses hauled a long distance during the summer months were: 1. size and comfort of the accommodations--room to move around, eat and drink en route, quality of the suspension (air shocks, etc). 2. reputation of the hauler and insurance carried Dyane =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
