Re: [RC] Small acreage... manure management? - Sisu West Ranch

Put up a wooden 3 sided compost pile confiner. If you want to be organized, put in two so you can be shoveling one out all summer while making the next one. Put the manure in. Put lawn clippings in. Put clean kitchen veg waste in. Make sure that it stays moist (shouldn't be a problem in Maine). Turn with fork once or twice a year. By next spring it will be ready to put on flower gardens, veg gardens etc. You can actually put on 3-4 inches deep on a garden to good effect.

If you end up with more than you can handle, find a neighbor with garden and let him/her have some.

While power equipment makes life easier, you can do it all by hand. I did for 20 years.
