Re: [RC] Riding at Night - M Paul latiolaisAs a new "rider in the dark" I can attest to Aaron's comments:I was supposed to ride with an experienced rider, but she dropped down to a 30 because of horse issues. I ended up out there by myself. I THOUGHT I was prepared. -I had a new headlamp that did not work on the helmet at speed. -My big surprise was how DARK it is out there in the dark. I could not see ANYTHING below my horse's head. I am assuming that a glow stick on the breast collar would help with that. -There were lots of side trails on the last leg, and I did not know the trail as well as I would have liked, so I was concerned about getting lost. I did not really trust my horse to know the way, and the glow sticks were pretty far apart. Fortunately for me, ride management sent out an experienced rider and horse to ride with me on that last leg. In fairness to ridecamp, she had been sent to either ride with me or hang more glowsticks. I had been riding the last 40 miles alone, so I chose the company over the extra glowsticks. Also, she had a great headlamp which she used sparingly. Her horse's white butt was easy to see even in the pitch dark. She did NOT use glowsticks on her horse. -Paul On Jun 27, 2006, at 9:38 AM, Aaron Turnage wrote: Having in the last month both managed my first ride, a night ride, and ridden my first 100 I thought I'd contribute to this topic.?
