[RC] WS Run and Tevis buckles price and history - Sue WalzDawn,Thanks for the bit of history on the run. Very interesting. For the 50th Tevis in '04 they invited a small number of notable WS runners to run with the horses. All went well, they yielded to riders as we approached. I thought it would have been sensible to have the runners start a bit after the riders instead of before us. But it all worked well. It was fun riding with the runners. I admire anyone who takes on that 100 miles on foot! ~Sue Walz & Raven..... Tevis bound again! From: "Dawn Simas" <dawnsimas67@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [RC] WS Run and Tevis buckles price and history It's sad to think that if the owner died (hence in an estate sale), their family didn't appreciate the accomplishment and care enough to want to keep it. :( For those interested, the run is this Saturday. It's always one month prior to the Tevis, unfortunately for the runners, they have no moon this weekend at all. I'm embarassed to admit that I remember when was started back in 1974 when Gordy Ainsleigh's horse was lame and he decided to run the ride on foot. The next few years, several runners ran it with Gordy and were getting in the way of the riders, so they started a Run separately a month earlier. It's a premiere event now, with about 450 runners competing this weekend. www.ws100.com And to Nancy who asked: Yes, the WSTF has the perpetual trophies (Tevis, Scripps, and Hagin cups) and they are usually on display in the City Hall at Auburn.
