I've used Easy Boots for as long as they've been around and here are some
tricks.
For removal: Get a small screwdriver shaped instrument that is kind of
curved and flat at the end. (I'm not a builder of things but I think it's some
kind of a nail puller.) Loosen the boot wire and loosen them as much as
possible. Lift the horses foot and put the screw driver between the outside wall
of the hoof and the Easy boot and pry the boot off. It's really easy once you
get the hang of it. Just make sure your horse is used to having it's feet
handled. Hard to do with a horse who is bad about it's feet.
Putting them on: Make sure the horses feet are fairly well trimmed, even
the correct size won't go on a hoof that's too long and spread out with chunks
missing. Open them up as wide as you can and put them on, sometime you have to
kind of twist them back and forth to get them on. Let the horse put his foot
down so they are on good then pick up the horses foot and really work the toe
down into the boot as far as you can. Adjust the wire as tight as you can.
Remember, if they go on easy, they will come off easy. I've only had one
mare that wouldn't hold them if put on correctly, she had a club foot in front,
she probably would have held an Epic but they weren't invented at the time.
Good luck! They are a good product but definitely have a learning curve.
