[RC] Barefoot/Booted - Rebecca HackworthOK, I have been doing this since November. Prior to that I used EZ Boots over shoes. (read:double $$) Having one (good) farrier quite the business and couldn't get another to come out. The ones that do are a bunch of Prima Donna's that charge lots of $$ for work I don't like and they won't listen to me. So I decided to take the plunge. I have a pretty good eye from watching farriers for 40 years, so I bought a hoof stand, rasp and re-read all of the horseshoeing books I have. Now I don't loose a whole day waiting for a farrier that is hours late or doesn't bother to show up. My horses get done when I have time, when they need it and it only takes me 10-15 minutes per horse. It has worked well so far for me for 7-8 months now and only the cost of the EZ boots. The hoof stand paid for it's self with the first 2 trims. Oh, and I don't even boot for training rides unless I am REALLY training on hard rocky trails. Marc has really good feet, even when he was shod and I haven't had a problem. Do what works for you and your horse, and GO RIDE!!!!
