RE: [RC] USEF to Replace US Chef de' Equipe - stephteeterFrom conversation with Tom, riders, and others, I understand that there is no 'one reason'. It seems to be primariy a difference of opinion between Tom and USEF management as to how to best manage the preparation, selection and representation of a USEF team of athletes. My personal opinion: Tom is a successful International endurance athlete himself, and his focus has been very straight forward, very 'nuts and bolts', in his expectations of training and performance. I do not understand the reason for his dismissal, and nobody has been able to give me any particular reason whatsoever. I believe he has brought a high level of professionalism and transparency to the system. After the Dubai WEC, the riders - athletes - wanted a change, and Tom was their choice. Tom believes he was responding to that desire for change, and the desire for a more function oriented process. And it is a very bad move to do this - make this significant change - so close to the event, since Tom has been the coach for the past 15 months. Regarding selection of the 12 member short list and alternates, the selection committee was fairly unanimous in their decision. I don't think Tom's dismissal is related to the recent selection decision. The decision to make the change is being taken six weeks before the 2006 World Endurance Championship. The move comes 48 hours after the selection of the short list of US riders and mounts from which the final 5 will be selected. There are no announced plans for replacement. USEF Personnel and High Performance Committee members are not commenting upon the situation. The USEF Executive Committee will meet tomorrow to finalize the decision. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
