[RC] My coast ride! - Sue WalzI still regret that I had to miss Sunriver... I'm sure it was great! But my barefoot principles are stronger than my endurance addiction, I guess. The only ride that I'll shoe for remains to be Tevis.... & for Tevis I use pliable plastic shoes that get pulled immediately after the ride is done. So, I danced all Friday night to Little Charlie & the Night Cats! Left early Saturday for the coast with Raven. Met my fellow barefooters, Kathy Harris & her neighbor, Kathleen. We rode the dunes trails & galloped down the beach until the horse's wild hearts were content! They packed up to go home & I headed up to the Horse Creek Camp on Cape Mountain. I did a 2 hour evening ride & set up camp for the night. Up at 7 am & rode for an hour & came back for breakfast. Left again for a 3 hour ride. Half hour later, 2 more hours. So 8 hours total on Cape mountain & 3 on Baker Beach! Awesome trails! Barefoot, needless to say! On my second ride today & came across a black bear on the trail! He ran ahead of us until he found a place to exit to the left! Raven was unimpressed.... later we came around a bend & dispersed a large herd of elk! Beautiful, graceful, huge elk! The next turn a large buck cantered across the trail in front of us! What a sight to behold! Again I was so glad that Raven is bomb proof! Nothing worries him! Pacific Crest is the next ride on our schedule, then Bandit Springs.... then TEVIS!!!
