Re: [RC] MPG and diesel trucks - Truman PrevattA lot will depend on your trailer. I first time I towed a gooseneck, I looked back and saw my buckets trying to fly out of the back of the truck. The interaction with the gooseneck and tailgate create backflow in the back (along with it's drag). Remove the tailgate and the backflow has a way to escape. At least that is the theory.I know people that have replaced their tailgates with the louvered ones and swear they get better mileage. However, I haven't seen the need to do it. I suspect it all depends on a lot of factors - including how fast your drive.
