I am ultimately responsible for the lame horse
after the shoeing/trimming is done. Therefore if someone asks me to do
something I know will hurt the horse, I try to dissect why they are asking
me for this. To be honest, usually its a misguided thought read in a
magazine, coming from someone who knows little about anatomy. Once I find
out why, I can give them the correct method to achieve their goal, and
explain to them why the problem with the orginal plan. I've rarely
had this method not leave all 3 of us happy. When it doesn't work
out, I simply let them know that we can't work together.
Would you honeslty want any professional (DR,
Lawyer, etc) to do exactly as you say (robot) without putting any thought into
it?
For the most part, I rarely run into that bad
of a stiuation. Most people want to try something different in a small
way. Which I look on as another great expierment!

My one piece of advice to
you is.... the shoer must do as you ask or get rid of him. Most farriers will
work with you on what you want. If they don't, fire their butt! You told us
about the nickel, and he should have done as you asked... you pay him! I mean,
if you want your horse to have heart shaped hooves because he/she moves
better, then that farrier should make those hooves heart shaped... period.
(This is just a made up thing, folks, I know that heart shaped hooves
don't do well, flowery shaped ones do!) I am also with you on the nice
truck thing... he probably was expensive. Anyways, good luck to
you!!!!
