Re: [RC] trimming/shoeing your own horse - Jennifer AdamI too am frustrated by farriers in my area... The only one I really like is retiring this summer and his replacement is a pain in the a** who thinks he knows the *only* correct way to do things. I have three mustangs who have fantastic feet and I just like them to be rasped a bit to keep them shaped nicely and balanced. Shoot, if I don't touch them at all they wear away naturally! But, when he was out yesterday to trim my mom's Saddlebred, he proceeded to examine my mustangs (unasked, of course) and then went on to tell me that they needed a lot more done... His mentor (the farrier I like) just shook his head and told me privately that I would be better off rasping them myself. All they need is a little beveling and smoothing right now, but I worry about when we start AERC rides that require shoes or boots. This young yahoo doesn't know the first thing about endurance, fitting boots, or barefoot trims. It makes me nervous doing such important work on my own, but I'd rather do it myself than let someone else mess up my horses (and charge $$$$ to do it, to boot!) Guess I'm gonna have a lot (more) to learn as we get more involved with the sport...Jen (and Gypsy, Ranger, and Brisa - who say there's nothing wrong with their feet, thank you very much!!) _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger!
