[RC] Barefoot hooves - Barb Peck

Horses, left to their own devices will seek high ground, rather than stand in
mud and water,
and the'll pick their way along their own route, on the best ground, to avoid
jamming themselves on rocky roads or old rock stream beds.

When we force them on a route they'd not normally take, and they're barefoot,
then it's the riders responsibility to boot them (or shoe them) if the terrain
warrants it.

I've seen plenty of feet, where people try and force a concavity, or take off
too much sole , or reshape a foot to fit an ideal they think the horse should
have. Not all soles are created equal... and there just comes a time when you
have to accept a horses conformation (feet included) and not force an issue on
them becuase of ideology.

That means, no matter how much YOU want something (in this case a horse that
can go over any kind of rocky ground barefoot) you may have to come to the
realiZation you can't always get what you want.
